There are many different types of phone on the market
- an incredible number in fact - but the number of smartphones that are
actually compatible with Exchange currently fall into a small number of
categories.
First of all we have the Windows Mobile Phones®
which are a Microsoft software product with hardware made by a third
party to run the Microsoft Windows Mobile operating Systems. These phone
have a lot of features as they are essentially a version of Windows that
runs on your mobile phone instead of your computer. They synchronise
your calendar, your contacts, your email and your tasks from Outlook®
using a Microsoft technology called 'activesync' which communicates
between the server and the smartphopne. As they are designed for the
task they make your Outlook® mailbox extremely accessible and easy to
use as well as being very reliable to communicate with the server. At
sircles we recommend you try any phone on a trial basis before you
commit however, as just like Windows on your computer, Windows Mobile is
not custom made for any particular phone and so you should verify the
performance is OK as the phone might have more to deal with than it can
easily handle.
Another popular connection to the Email Hosting Server
is via the Nokia MFE (Mail for Exchange) which is a software that Nokia
produce in order to compete with Windows Mobile. MFE synchronises
Calendar, Contacts, Email and Tasks just as like Microsoft Activesync
and has facility for business hours syncing and out of hours syncing to
save your battery and bills when not requiring new emails instantly out
of office hours.
