Several Simple Steps to Try To Get Yourself Printing.
So you're trying to print and the printer is just sitting there....
Still not doing anything !!!!!
OK well instead of burning it and throwing it out of the window we shall actually try something that does not involve direct violent physical action against the printer and the surrounding area.
The network printer, like everything else on your network, has an address which allows network traffic from your computer to be routed (in other words the little bits of information from your computer need to follow directions to get to the printer and the address is what they use to find it) and so we need to make sure that both your computer and printer have a valid address.
In most circumstances the addresses that your computer and the printer have are allotted automatically by a device on your network; this is typically a server or a router. The router is the little box that plus into your phone line (if you're at home whilst working) and the server is more likely if you are in the office and in which case you will not have a lot of control over.
